Behind the scenes with Jane Iredale in September Vogue

If you have picked up the latest edition of Vogue, yes that would be the all-important September issue, you have probably seen the amazing advertorial spread featuring our very own Jane Iredale. We are so excited! A couple of months ago, Jane went to New York City for a photo shoot with world renowned photographer Norman Jean Roy. The experience was once in a lifetime. The Vogue Creative Studio designed a fantasy that captured the spirit and philosophy behind the jane iredale brand and the inspirational environment where Jane herself imagines, dreams and creates the amazing makeup we use every day. I sat down with one of the gals in our office who was at the shoot, and got the details about this incredible experience. Jane and the jane iredaleteam arrived at the shoot early in the morning, but the Vogue creative team had already been setting up for a few hours. The set was custom built using old window panels from Paris and the shelves were built into it that morning. Jane went straight to hair and makeup where she spent the next couple of hours getting pampered and polished from head to toe (our hard-working Jane so deserves this!). Her makeup was kept neutral to highlight Jane's natural beauty without competing with the saturated colors surrounding her. Makeup artist Romy Soleimani used some of Jane's favorite products to create her look. Here is how you can re-create it:

• Apply a small amount of Glow Time BB Cream to your entire face by placing a little on each of your finger tips and then gently patting it in until it is well blended; Jane is wearing BB5.
• Apply PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation using the Handi Brush and spritz with POMMISST Hydration Spray; Jane is wearing Warm Sienna.
• Using the Sculpting Brush, apply Lemon Lid Primer to your entire eye lid in circular motions. This helps to neutralize any redness on your eyelids and also to keep your eye makeup lasting all day.
• Next, apply the lightest shade of Triple Cognac PurePressed Eye Shadow Triple to your entire eye lid and brow bone using the Deluxe Shader Brush.
• Apply the medium shade of Triple Cognac PurePressed Eye Shadow on your eye lid.
• Using the Crease Brush, apply the darkest shade of Triple Cognac PurePressed Eye Shadow to your crease and the outer corner of the eye.
• Line your top lash line with Dark Topaz Mystikol using the Angle Liner/Brow Brush.
• Apply a few Faux Lashesto the outer part of your lash line. Click here for a blog post on how to apply faux lashes.
• Finish with PureLash Lengthening Mascara in Brown Black.
• Jane is wearing Blonde Bitty Brow kit to fill in and help shape her eyebrows. For great tips on how to get the perfect brows, click here.
• Apply PurePressed Blush in Sheer Honey to just the apples of your cheeks using the White Fan Brush.
• Finish the look by lining your lips with the Spice Lip Pencil. For fuller lips line just on the outside edge of your natural lip line.
• Fill in your lips using PureGloss Lip Gloss in Iced Mocha.

After hair and makeup, Jane was brought to wardrobe. Wardrobe stylist Deborah Afshani pulled some beautiful dresses for Jane to try. At first Jane chose a dress that was a soft golden yellow, you can see her wearing it in the behind-the-scenes video. However, once she took her place within the beautiful set, Jane and the dress were lost. She decided she needed a true pop of color and chose a gorgeous dress by Max Mara in a vivid coral color. Jane is naturally drawn to this color, so it was fitting that she wore it for her Vogue shoot. When it came to shoes, Jane was conflicted. She wanted so badly to opt for the comfort of her own shoes with a manageable heel. This was fantasy-land though, and there were so many amazing shoes to choose from! At last she chose the amazing Christian Louboutin pumps you see peeking out under the table. Who can argue against wearing those, am I right!? Especially if you're sitting down! Norman Jean Roy, with whom Jane adored working, only shot for about 20 minutes before the team broke for lunch. They feasted on healthy, local fare including a delicious beet salad with goat cheese. Then they continued for about another 20 minutes and that was a wrap! It took hours to set up, but only about 30 minutes to break set. The team at Vogueis absolutely the best at what they do. Jane was so impressed with how the day went and how the team worked together to ensure the shoot went off without a hitch. She said,

"I brought two perspectives to the experience. One was the eye of someone who'd been behind the camera as a professional for many years, the other of a star-struck human. As a professional, I was so impressed with the seamless nature of the teamwork of the various departments, lighting, set design, makeup, hair, wardrobe and then, of course, the incredible photographer himself, Norman Jean Roy, who was gracious, inclusive and calm - qualities that I think always get the best out of people. As a star-struck human, I practically genuflected when I met Norman Jean and was so afraid that he was going to have to work really hard to get what he wanted artistically from me. But he made me feel so much a part of the team that I just stopped worrying and smiled for the camera. He also taught me a few red carpet tricks that I'll put to good use. When he said, 'We've got it. It's a wrap,' I felt as though a glorious party was over and I wished we could do it all over again."
