new summer 2016 makeup, quand bronzers, peach pink lip balm with SPF 15

We know you love to glow on-the-go with our Quad Bronzers, so we redesigned them for improved portability! You’ll find the same great shades you know and love (Rose Dawn, Sunbeam and Moonglow), with a gorgeous new look!

The four shades on each bronzer can be mixed and matched and applied all over the face or on your cheeks, eyes and even your lips. Here are a few tips on how to apply bronzer for different looks in seconds:

  • For an all over glow: Swirl The Handi Brush across all four shades of Rose Dawn or Sunbeam and lightly apply to your face as you would a foundation. This will give you that ‘day at the beach’ look.
  • Sunbeam, Rose Dawn and Moonglow Quad BronzersFor a contoured look: If you want to accentuate your cheekbones, swirl the Dome Brush across all four shades of Sunbeam and apply the bronzer to the parts of your face the sun would naturally hit: the top of your forehead near your temples, your cheekbones and your jawline.
  • For shimmery eyes: You can also use Moonglow Bronzer as an eye shadow for a hint of glow. First, use the Deluxe Shader Brush to apply one of the lighter shades from the lid of your eye up to your brown bone. Then, using the same brush, add one of the darker shades to the crease and the outer corner of your eye.

Physical vs. Chemical Sunscreen – What’s the Difference?

IMC_SCF_FULL_LINE_INTL_HR_720x473_72_RGB

Choosing a sunscreen can be overwhelming. There are so many factors to consider (SPF, formulation, application, etc.) that it’s easy to give up and just pick the first one you see. One of the most confusing elements of the process is deciding whether to buy a physical sunscreen or a chemical one.

If you’re uncertain whether you want to transition from a chemical sunscreen to a physical one, here are some points of difference to help you choose which type of sunscreen is best for you.

  Physical Sunscreen

  • Contains physical sun blockers; active mineral ingredients zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.
  • Provides chemical-free broad spectrum coverage (protects against both UVA and UVB rays).
  • Remains on the surface of your skin.
  • Acts like tiny mirrors reflecting, refracting and absorbing rays.
  • Begins working as soon as you apply.
  • Less likely to cause irritation on your skin.
  • Is available in a range of SPF levels and can be very water-resistant.

 Chemical Sunscreen

  • Contains organic (carbon-based) chemical compounds.
  • Provides broad spectrum coverage by combining multiple ingredients; zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide are also used in some formulas.
  • Works by penetrating your skin’s surface.
  • Absorbs the sun’s rays into the ingredients like a sponge.
  • Requires approximately 20 minutes to fully sink into your skin.
  • Increased likelihood of skin irritation due to the combination of ingredients.
  • Is available in a range of SPF levels and can be very water-resistant.

Are you ready to try a chemical-free sunscreen? Look no further because jane iredale has seven physical sunscreens that have earned The Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Approval: PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation SPF 20Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder SPF 20Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream SPF 25, Powder-Me SPF Dry Sunscreen SPF 30LipDrink Lip Balm SPF 15 and HandDrink Hand Cream SPF 15.

How to Shape and Define Your Brows Like a Pro

Eyebrows have come center stage in the world of makeup; a full, defined brow is in demand more than ever. Perfectly groomed brows frame the face, and if done correctly, can act as an instant eye-lift. They set up your eye area making any eye shadow, liner and or mascara pop and ensuring your eyes become the focal point. To achieve your perfect eye brows, follow these quick steps.

First things first, put down and step away from the tweezers. Over tweezing leads to overly thin and misshapen brows, which require more work on your end to make them full and beautiful again. If any tweezing will take place it should occur at the end of grooming your brows to clean up excess hair.  Remember, we tweeze our brows, we do not pluck them.

How to Shape Your Eyebrows

Brow shape is unique to everyone’s face. Eyebrows are not a one size fits all situation; what looks stunning on your best friend or favorite celebrity, may not be the best shape for you. Here are three steps to help you find the most perfect brow shape for your face:

  1. how to shape eyebrow, eyebrow shaping chartTo find out where your brow should begin (point A), align the flat edge of a straight makeup brush to the outside of your nose/inner corner of your eye.
  2. Your true arch (point B) is found by taking your brush and laying it diagonally from your nostril to the outside edge of your iris.
  3. Determine where your brow should end (point C) by using your brush to create a line from the outside corner of your nose diagonally to the outside corner of your eye.

The Perfect Brow for your Face Shape

  • For a Round Face: To minimize the curve of a round face, direct the outer third of your brow towards the top of the ear.
  • For a Square Face: If the face is square, direct the outer third of your brow toward the middle of the ear. This helps balance the face.
  • For a Long Face: If the face is long, keep the brow more straight across, directing the outer third above the ear.
  • For an Oval Face: An oval face already looks balanced, but to enhance this harmony, you can direct the outer third towards the ear lobe.

The Perfect Brow for your Eye Shape

  • For Wide Set Eyes: Make sure the inner corner of your brows are closer together.  First, mark where your brow should begin by using the Eye Pencil in Taupe to make a small line towards the center of your nostril. Then, use all your other angles to determine where the brow should arch and end.
  • For Close Set Eyes: Try not to make the mistake of over tweezing the area between your eyes; this will throw off they symmetry of your face. All you need to do is extend the true arch point out further, to give the eyes more of a wide set appearance.
  • For Hooded Eye Lids: Your ideal brow is thinner. This will open up the eye area and it appear larger and wider. Try to avoid a large, heavy brow because it will create the illusion that the eye is being pulled down further.
  • For Deep Set Eyes: Your goal is to offset any of the shadows seen around the whole eye area. Too dark eye brows will make your eyes appear deeper set than they really are. So, try working with a lighter brow shade, and keep your brow shape more angular. If the brows are too round in shape, they can actually accentuate dark circles.
  • For More Mature Eyes: The trick is to not drag the end tail of your eyebrow down; no need to assist gravity. First, find your true arch. Then, slightly lift the tail of the eyebrow as you create the end point. This will create an illusion of a more youthful eye.

How to Define Your Eyebrows

How to clean your makeup brushes

brushesWhy clean your makeup brushes? There are four big reasons for doing so.

  1. Cleaning your makeup brushes improves performance.
  2. Cleaning your makeup brushes prevents bacteria, oil buildup and transfer.
  3. Cleaning them will extend the life of your makeup brushes.Brushes are a big investment, so we should be doing our best to protect them.

Optimally, we should wash our brushes once a week; I think I speak for most of us when I say that usually doesn’t happen. A realistic goal is to wash your brushes at least once a month. Here are the steps of how to clean your makeup brushes.

How to Clean Your Brushes

  1. truly pureUse warm water to saturate the brush hairs only. Be sure not to soak your brush as this will ruin it.
  2. Place a pea-sized amount of Truly Pure Shampoo & Conditioner, or any mild shampoo, into the palm of your hand and massage the cleanser into the hair. Do this until the cleanser has been completely dispersed among the brush hairs.
  3. Rinse the brush thoroughly until the water runs clear.
  4. Repeat as necessary.
  5. Create a ring with your index finger and thumb and pull the brush through the fingers while applying gentle pressure to remove excess water and maintain the brushes shape.
  6. Place on a towel and lay flat to dry. Never dry your brush in an upright position as this will loosen the glue that binds the brushes and lead to hair loss.

Never place your brushes in a sterilizer because it will permanently damage it.

Weekend Getaway Makeup Essentials

Weekend With summer coming to an end, you may be ready to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to enjoy a little rest and relaxation this holiday weekend.  Whether you’re traveling to the seaside, the countryside or even to the big city this Labor Day, these essentials will ensure that you look and feel your best all weekend.

One item I always need in my bag for a weekend away is a Hydration Spray.  No matter your skin type, there is a Hydration Spray that is especially designed for you.  For oily skin, try Balance.  It’s formulated to balance the skin’s oils and help fight acne with its Green Tea Leaf Extract.  If you’re headed to the beach, the Pomegranate Extract in POMMISST Hydration Spray will help boost the performance of your SPF and minimize UV damage, while White Tea Leaf and Rosemary Leaf Extracts protect and soothe the skin, making POMMISST a perfect choice for a post-beach spritz. For dry or sensitive skin, try D2O Hydration Spray.  The Ylang Ylang Flower Extract and Essential Oil of D2O balance skin’s oils and the Chamomile Flower Extract helps calm inflammation and minimize dryness, itchiness and sensitivity.  Each of these Hydration Sprays can also all be used to to apply eye shadow wet for a deeper hue by spritzing your eye shadow brush before applying or turn eye shadows into eyeliners by spritzing any eyeliner brush then applying your shadow of choice.  Plus, they are all TSA approved, so you can carry them in your bag on your next flight (they are also great for a mid-flight refresher).

How To Shape Your Eyebrows Like a Pro!

Every makeup artist I have ever spoken to says eyebrows are the most important facial feature. All angles of the face are determined by the brows: they can lift the eyes; narrow or widen the face. While there is a lot of opportunity here, it is important to let your natural shape be your guide. It is probably close to optimal for your face and anything too drastic can look unnatural. Here are some techniques from our team of fabulous makeup artist educators.
