jane iredale, a green story

  • 2 min read

BY CHELSEA SIMMONS

For those of you that know us well, and those of you just joining us, we want to give you a little inside look at ways we are proudly supporting the Earth on Earth Day and throughout the year. At jane iredale we care a lot about the footprint we leave on this beautiful Earth of ours and we strive to minimize it wherever we can. Recently a number of our offices moved into our beautiful new building, an old school called the Bryant School that we renovated to keep as much of the character, charm and originality of the building as possible while updating it to leave the smallest environmental footprint possible. The Bryant School offices are currently under application to receive a LEED Gold Award from the US Green Building Council. Bryant Building Outside The new offices focus on reducing our carbon footprint by reducing our use of fossil fuel power sources. Some environmental conscious choices made when renovating these offices were that almost all of the materials, including furniture, being used in the building are made from low solvent, low chemical ingredients. There are also seven amazing rain gardens that eventually drain into the Housatonic River, less than 800 feet away from the building. In addition, when renovating these offices, over 90% of the building materials disposed of during demolition and construction were recycled. We’re proud of our new offices at the Bryant School and as of earlier this year we are now all moved in and enjoying our home in this lovely green building. While it’s still chilly out in the lovely Berkshires, summer is just around the corner, which means we will be spending time in our company garden growing food for employees and their families to eat this season. All of our employees are welcome to partake in the care, growth and of course consumption of these yummy fruits and veggies. We can’t wait to dig in! fresh vegetables from organic farm Something else we’re looking forward to this summer is hosting a local Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning from May to October. Our company parking lot will be filled with the amazing, hard working local farmers who are raising organic meat, producing organic milk, yogurt, cheese and eggs and growing a variety of fruits and vegetables. If you happen to be in our area this summer, stop by the Farmer’s Market and check out the assortment of local food the Berkshire’s has to offer. Of course with all of these activities happening, we still go back to our roots (no pun intended) and carry this into our makeup line. These are just some of the ways we’re going green this year, how are you committing to go green this Earth day and in 2015? Tell us below!
